Ukrainian intelligence agencies successfully disrupted a plot by a Russian agent to carry out terror attacks in several major cities. The Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) reported the arrest of a 55-year-old former law enforcement officer from the Odesa region who had been recruited by the Russian GRU.

The agent was planning to use improvised explosive devices (IEDs) to target military vehicles in Kyiv, Chernihiv, Uman, and Odesa. He was tasked with creating and deploying three IEDs, along with two antipersonnel mines, using plastic explosives and detonators.

SBU counterintelligence proactively uncovered the plot, documenting the suspect’s activities and those of his Russian handler. All explosive devices and related materials were seized and neutralized. The agent was subsequently arrested.

The suspect faces multiple charges, including treason, preparing a terrorist act, and illegal possession of weapons and explosives. He is currently in custody and faces a potential life sentence with asset confiscation.
